The Ubuntu App Showdown: Harmony - 2
It has been about one week since I started working Harmony, and there are like 3 days until due. There are still some work to be done, but luckily I have a two days free (weekend, YAY!) to focus on Harmony.
I think a stable -functioning more important- version will be ready before the 9th July, it's OK. The packaging part is a bit intimidating for me. I've tried to understand all that PPA hassle before, but no luck. Even though I've experience with GNU/Linux distribution packages with the packages I've made for Arch Linux' AUR, Debian packaging and PPA business is a bit complicated, or I don't have a proper guide, I don't know.
If you ask about the current situation, now Harmony can:
- Read mp3 files in your source directory (optionally recursively)
- Read tags of files
- Copy/Move files to destination directory setting file names according to the mask selected.
And a progress bar shows the current state of copying/moving process. These were the basic features of Harmony that I've had in mind. However, while working I got really nice suggestion: Daemon mode
Daemon mode is that, the application will watch a selected folder continuously, and once an mp3 file is put in the directory application will process the file (according to a selected mask, just like it is in single run mode). So, you downloaded a new mp3? You don't have to run something every time you do so, just put it in that folder and let the Harmony do the job. Isn't it nice?
According to my plans, hopefully, a usable version will be ready to release around Sunday (Jul 8) evening. But as I said, I really need help about packaging. If you are a nice guy with some deb packaging experience, please contact me. You can leave a comment, send an e-mail to me or just use the contact form link of which you can find at the top menu.
