20th Anniversary of Linux
I've been hurt last few months, watching my own blog's becoming an archive containing videos I like (I should write; no text, no good, honest). But this video, I should absolutely share.
It's been 20 years after Linus Torvalds posted his very famous message to Usenet newsgroup comp.os.minix. Which you can find here.
(The video is already about Linux' story but I wanted to add something)
It was the beginning of something big. Sometime after code is published, Linus Torvalds licensed his code under GNU's General Public License which was Richard Matthew Stallman's work. Then Linux stepped out of Linus' hands and developers all around the world contributed. GNU was a whole operating system without a kernel, and Linux was the kernel that GNU needed, so they got combined with each other. This was the birth of a free operating system.
Now, 20 years after Torvald's post, we are happy to celebrate Linux' 20th anniversary as all GNU/Linux users. Viva la GNU/Linux.
